Scene 2-4
Characters
INT. RECREATION ROOM, REHAB FACILITY, ISLE OF WIGHT
AMY
Hey Alan, what is it day three for you? You settled in okay?
ALAN
Yes, fine thank you Amy. Still find it very strange that I need to be here at all. At least the food is not that bad here, I just hope they got someone to look after my cat.
AMY
Aye, Its a bit ridiculous, my advice is to toe the line and get out of here in good time. You should be out of here in the standard 14 days. If you're really good then they may even transport you back home but dinnae count on it. That is unless you want to get out early.
ALAN
What do you mean?
AMY
Let's just say that there are plans for me to go missing in a few nights. You'd be welcome to tag along.
ALAN
I'd only slow you down Amy an old chap like myself.
AMY
Well, just keep it in mind, the offer is open.
ALAN
You have friend to get you out of here then?
AMY
Something like that, aye. There's a weekly laundry collection and it just so happens for extra brownie points I've asked to help out to be a "model woman". You see Alan I'm part of a resistance movement that sends agents into the south in order to undermine the Government. I've got a lot of important work to be getting on with, getting caught was not part of the plan.
ALAN
That sounds potentially dangerous, You be careful.
AMY
Thanks Dad,
(Pause)
You're more than welcome to join me although I'll be heading north.
ALAN
That's a lovely gesture dear but you have to remember although I am an ally I'm not actually queer myself.
AMY
We need allies Alan. You'd be a great ally to have, people would never suspect you because of your age,
ALAN
Oh, thanks, nice bit of ageism there
AMY
I didnae mean it like that. I mean that the age is a perfect cover so it's actually a benefit to you.
ALAN
(faking upset)
Humph
AMY
You ken what I mean though, don't you
(pause)
It's really simple, all you got to do is avoid saying stupid shit on social media.
ALAN
I'll keep that in mind.
AMY
If I do get out do you want me to look in on your cat?
ALAN
(becomes soppy)
Oh if you could check on Mittens that would be great, he will be so lonely without anyone there. Although I suspect he's probably bothering the neighbours for attention and they appreciate him so I doubt he will go without for too long. He can be quite demanding, I'll write down my address for you. There is a spare key in a lockbox just outside the flat so I'll give you the code to that too. Feel free to use the flat.
(pause)
Once I am out, how would I get in touch if I was interested?
AMY
This is where StraightSpace comes in really useful. Lookup an alt profile of mine called ScotTradWife56, all one word. Send it a message propose a date or something and I'll do the rest, might take me a few days to get back to you so be patient.
ALAN
You're joking right? Surely they will find something that's blatantly a fake account.
AMY
Not at all, it's a perfect cover, The Government are so desperate to have more people adhere to their sense of normal they literally do somersaults when they get one and never look twice. Plus it's amazing what you can do with some recycled clothes, a wig, and a bit of make up.
ALAN
You're really quite something luv.
AMY
Aye, I ken that.
REHAB CLERK
(over tannoy)
Will Amy Duggan please come to reception.
AMY
That's me, that is an open offer Alan. You can come with me in a few days or contact me once your out.
ALAN
Thanks Amy, I'll keep that in mind.
TRANSITION TO: Reception desk
AMY
You called.
REHAB CLERK
Yes, your request has been granted. We need to do bedding changes in two days, so you'll need to help change those and then stay up to ensure it gets collected and next weeks delivered.
AMY
Aye, nae bother.
REHAB CLERK
Report to the laundry room in two days and you will be given access to the rooms and equipment. The delivery should happen after lights out so you'll have to stay in the laundry room until they arrive.
(Pause)
You may go.
